Videohub control

Use a compatible routing client to select sources for SwitchEffect’s auxiliary, Program, and Preview buses.

What Videohub control means

SwitchEffect presents a routing interface to compatible Videohub clients, including clients such as RouteEffect. A routing client sees named sources and destinations, then sends source-selection changes to the software switcher.

Use it to route Auxiliary 1 or assign the Program and Preview buses. This is a control connection: it does not transmit video over the Videohub protocol or turn your device into a physical SDI router.

Connect a routing client

  1. Connect the client and SwitchEffect device to a reachable local network.
  2. Open Settings → Automation → Videohub and enable Allow Videohub Control.
  3. Start the switcher.
  4. Enable Advertise Videohub via Bonjour for supported discovery, or enter the device IP in your client.
  5. Connect using TCP port 9990. The client should load SwitchEffect’s source and destination labels.

Bonjour and control are separate: advertising off still permits a direct IP connection when Videohub control is enabled.

Understand the destinations

Default destination labelBehavior
Program OutputRepresents the final Program feed. It stays connected to Program; it is not a second independently assignable output.
Auxiliary 1Route an available source, Program, or Preview to the first auxiliary bus.
ProgramAssign an input directly to the Program bus. This changes the live source without a Preview-to-Program transition.
PreviewAssign an input to Preview so it is ready for a later Cut or Auto transition.

Use labels in your client rather than assuming the source list matches another router’s numbering. Source choices follow the active SwitchEffect configuration. Output labels can be renamed, so their displayed names may differ from these defaults.

Route a confidence monitor

Configure a supported destination for Auxiliary 1 in SwitchEffect. In your routing client, choose the Auxiliary 1 destination and route Program to it. To give that output a different view, route an available source instead.

For shot preparation, route a camera to the Preview destination and then use SwitchEffect or an ATEM controller for the transition. Routing a camera to Program assigns it directly to the live bus.

Feedback, locks, and troubleshooting

Compatible clients can receive source labels and routing feedback. Output locks are supported where the client exposes them; a destination locked by another client may reject a route change.

If nothing appears, check Allow Videohub Control, the running switcher, the device IP, TCP port 9990, and local-network access. For blocked control in View Only Mode, review Settings → Automation → Allowed in View Only → Videohub.

Enable the service only on networks you trust. Turning advertising off is not an access restriction.
