SwitchEffect
Privacy Policy
Last updated October 28, 2026. This policy explains what information the SwitchEffect products handle and how it is used. SwitchEffect is developed by tow.com.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to the SwitchEffect app, the SwitchEffect Camera companion apps, their included app extensions, and the SwitchEffect website. In this policy, they are called the “SwitchEffect products.”
This policy does not cover Apple services, third-party hardware, streaming destinations, websites, or other services you choose to use with the SwitchEffect products. Those products and services are governed by their own privacy policies.
What the developer does not collect
The SwitchEffect products do not automatically send personal information, production content, switcher configurations, usage activity, advertising identifiers, or browsing history to the developer. The developer does not sell personal information. Information you choose to share with the developer, such as through a support request, is not used for advertising, cross-app tracking, or targeted marketing.
Some features capture, process, or transmit content at your direction. That processing is described below and does not give the developer access to the content.
SwitchEffect
SwitchEffect is the main video switcher and production app. It stores the switchers and production materials you choose to create or import locally on your device by default. Depending on the features you use, this may include switcher configurations, profiles, settings, macros, presets, layouts, source and destination details, imported media, stills, recordings, streaming configurations, and other production content.
Secrets and passwords that you ask SwitchEffect to remember are stored in your Apple Keychain. When you choose to import, export, save, or record to another location, files may be stored with a provider you select, such as iCloud Drive, external storage, Photos, or another Files provider. The developer cannot access files stored in your private storage accounts.
SwitchEffect may request access to cameras and microphones for production inputs, Photos when you choose to save captured still images, Face ID or device authentication for protected controls, and the local network to discover and connect to compatible cameras, displays, switchers, video sources, streaming endpoints, and other production devices or services.
Diagnostic Logs are off by default. If you enable them in SwitchEffect's settings, technical events are stored on your device. Turning logging off stops new records but keeps existing logs until you delete them. You choose whether to share a log and its destination; the developer receives it only if you send it to support for troubleshooting.
SwitchEffect Camera
SwitchEffect Camera is a companion application that lets you provide a camera or screen source to SwitchEffect. It does not require a SwitchEffect account and does not include purchases or subscriptions.
When you start sharing, SwitchEffect Camera accesses the camera video, microphone audio, or screen content you choose and transmits it in real time directly to a compatible SwitchEffect device through a connection you initiate or authorize. The content is processed on the participating devices and does not pass through an intermediate server. It is not sent to the developer, and SwitchEffect Camera does not retain a copy after sharing stops.
The receiving SwitchEffect user may view, record, stream, capture, or otherwise use the shared content as part of a production. Those copies are controlled by the receiving user and any destination they choose. Stopping sharing or deleting SwitchEffect Camera does not delete copies that have already been created outside the Camera app.
SwitchEffect Camera may exchange limited technical information directly with a compatible SwitchEffect device to discover it and establish or maintain the connection, such as a device name, network address, connection status, or session information. This information is used only for the connection, does not pass through an intermediate server, and is not sent to or stored by the developer.
SwitchEffect Camera may request camera access for a camera source, microphone access when you choose to include audio, screen-recording or screen-sharing access when you choose to share screen content, and local-network access to discover and connect to SwitchEffect.
Developer access and storage
The developer does not operate an account or cloud-storage service that receives or stores your switcher data, camera feed, screen content, audio, or other production content. The developer cannot view that information through the SwitchEffect products.
Your permissions and choices
The SwitchEffect products ask for protected access only when a feature needs it. You can stop an active camera or screen share in the app and can change camera, microphone, screen-recording, Photos, local-network, and other system permissions in your device settings. Turning off a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
SwitchEffect purchases
This section applies to the main SwitchEffect app, not SwitchEffect Camera. SwitchEffect purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. SwitchEffect uses StoreKit to present products and unlock paid features, but does not operate its own purchase server or receive your full payment card information. Billing, receipts, subscription management, cancellations, and refunds are handled by Apple.
Apple-provided app information
Apple may provide the developer with aggregated App Store information and diagnostics that you choose to share with app developers through your device settings. This information is provided by Apple and does not include your switcher data, camera feed, screen content, audio, or other production content.
Data control, deletion, and backups
You control the information stored by the SwitchEffect products on your devices. The developer does not keep a server copy of your production data and cannot restore that data if you delete it. You are responsible for maintaining any backups you need.
SwitchEffect does not sync your locally stored profiles, settings, macros, presets, layouts, or imported media through iCloud Drive. On iOS and iPadOS, Apple may include eligible app data in your device's iCloud Backup when backup is enabled and SwitchEffect is included. Restoring an iPhone or iPad from that backup may restore eligible app data. These backups are performed by Apple under your settings and do not give the developer access to your data. Successful backup or restoration is not guaranteed. See Apple's guide to iCloud Backup.
Temporary files and Diagnostic Logs are configured to be excluded from backup. Certain credentials, streaming keys, and pairing identities use ThisDeviceOnly Keychain protection and do not migrate to a different device. You may need to enter those credentials or pair devices again after restoring to another device.
You can export individual configurations or an entire switcher to a storage destination of your choice. Files outside SwitchEffect's storage, such as recordings on external drives, need their own backup. Exported files, saved photos, recordings, streams, and other copies outside SwitchEffect are controlled by the destinations, people, and services you choose. Deleting information from SwitchEffect or removing the app does not delete those outside copies. Your device or operating-system backup service may also retain a copy according to its own settings and policies; manage those copies with that provider.
Local configurations and production data remain until you delete them or remove the app. Diagnostic Logs remain on your device until you delete them. Support messages are retained only as reasonably necessary to answer requests, maintain support and business records, protect the products and their users, and comply with legal obligations.
Website privacy
The SwitchEffect website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. The hosting provider may process standard request logs, such as IP address, browser or user agent, timestamps, and requested pages, for security, diagnostics, and operations.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction or deletion of, restriction of or objection to processing of, or a portable copy of personal information controlled by the developer. You may also have the right to withdraw consent or complain to a data-protection authority. Submit a request by emailing support@switcheffect.app. The developer may verify your identity and will respond within the time required by applicable law.
The developer generally holds only information that you voluntarily send through a support conversation. Information stored locally by SwitchEffect can be managed through the app and device controls. Information held by Apple or another service must be managed with that provider.
Support messages
If you email support, the developer and its email provider receive your email address and the information you include. That information is used to answer your request and maintain a record of the conversation for support, security, legal, and business purposes. Please avoid sending passwords, account tokens, or sensitive production content unless necessary. Some records may need to be kept where required by law or for legitimate business needs.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as SwitchEffect changes. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
